Job Title : Health and Nutrition Services Specialist

Job Summary:

For assigned centers, has the major responsibility for administering sensory and other required health screenings, assessing children’s health status, maintaining medical records, data entry, tracking and follow up on medical services for children, supporting efforts to establish a medical and dental homes for families and assisting staff and parents in understanding the referral process.

Monitors health, safety and nutrition practices at assigned centers and make appropriate recommendations to center managers and the cross department team. Advocates for all children and families within the program using the Head Start principles as a basis. Coordinates activities with other departments.


Minimum Qualifications:
  • BA or BS degree in Health/Nutrition Science or closely related field and 1 years work experience working with family and children.
Will consider:
1. Associates degree in Health, ECE, Social Services, Nutrition AND 2 years experience in Health Care area related to sensory screenings, general health, dental, and nutrition related matters, preferably with children.
2. Certified Nurses Assistant credential, Community Health Advisor Certification and 2 years documented experience in Health Care area related to sensory screenings, general health, dental, and nutrition related matters, preferably with children.
  • Must be able to complete successfully the vision and hearing screenings state certification within One month of employment.
  • Must complete Food Handlers Certification Course within one month of employment.
  • Must have experience with personal computers (i.e. date entry, word processing, spreadsheets, etc. Please list on application a detailed description of computer experience.
  • Understanding and knowledge of health and nutrition issues related to preschool children and low income families.
  • Must possess knowledge of the Food Pyramid as it relates to nutritional needs of children.
  • Must possess knowledge of community resources such as AHCCCS, WIC, Food Plus, etc.
  • Must be able to perform mathematical calculations.
  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds and be physically able to perform vision and hearing screenings.
  • Skills in problem solving, time management, organization, processing paperwork efficiently, and collecting and interpreting health data.

Salary: Grade 39 - $1,079.20 bi weekly (Certified)
Grade 40 - $1,106.40 bi weekly (Degreed)
40 hours per week 52 working weeks per year
