I was the child every teacher dreaded because I cried all the time. My favorite memories of Head Start are the songs, the books, the food and the caring teachers.

Part-Day Classroom

The traditional model for Head Start is the part-day classroom.  In this model, between seventeen and twenty children share a classroom at the center four days per week, four hours per day.  At a limited number of sites, transportation is available to get children to the center.

Full Day / Full Year

The program is designed to meet the needs of working families.  We provide Head Start services as well as quality child-care.  To be considered for this program the family / primary care giver must also qualify for the DES Childcare Subsidy.  This program is available Monday through Friday year around.

Family Literacy

In this model, parents attend the center along with their child and participate in their child's education,  In addition, parents have the opportunity to participate in Adult Education opportunities such as:

  • English as a Second Language
  • GED Courses
  • Vocational training
  • Family Discussions

Family literacy meets 5 days per week, five hours per day and encompasses all of the comprehensive approaches of the traditional Part-Day model in addition to the Family Literacy activities.

Home Based Services

The Early Head Start Home Based program serves pregenant women and children birth through age three. In this program families are visited in their home weekly by a Head Start Family Educator.  Bi-weekly group experiences provide socialization time as well as preparation for children to move into a classroom environment.
