  Children Services

The purpose of the Children’s Services Department (CS) is to provide children and families with quality education experiences that will help them create learning foundations that they can build upon in the future. To create this foundation the CS department takes on several responsibilities, the most wide-reaching being the development of appropriate curricula and developmental domains, where the domains involve enhancing specific developmental areas: math, science, language and literacy, social, emotional, cognitive, physical, and creativity.

The CS department leads the agency in the planning and implementation of curricula in all mediums such as the classroom, Home Base option, Early Head Start and Family Literacy. The department is also heavily involved with the exploration of modern child development research and theories, component responsibilities that enable the agency to offer quality, up-to-date educational experiences & opportunities to children and their families.

The CS department supports the teaching staff of all program options, helping them to develop and implement methods and strategies that will enhance the child’s educational experience. A high degree of emphasis is placed on relationship-building, specifically those between the teacher and parents, which is a standard based upon research that demonstrates such positive interaction between teacher and parent increases the child’s chances for educational success.

  Health and Nutrition Services

The mission of the Health and Nutrition Services Department (HNS) is to support the prevention of health concerns within the community by using early intervention methods. All of the department’s operations are geared towards accomplishing this purpose while simultaneously satisfying Performance Standards that address child health, nutrition, and safety.

The HNS department employs a variety of methods and activities to accomplish its ultimate goal of health concern prevention. The department invests heavily in conducting various medical screenings such as vision, hearing, anemia, and height and weight measurements in order to identify and address all potential health concerns. The department is also actively involved in developing policies on properly administering medications, and providing training to staff on how to identify and avoid communicable diseases.

HNS is responsible for all operations surrounding the provision of nutritious meals at the centers. To ensure compliance with federal, state, and county food and sanitation regulations the department conducts staff training on the proper methods for storing, preparing, and administering meals.

The department is also dedicated to assisting parents on the subject of how to deal with their children’s health issues. It is both an agency and departmental belief that the parent is the child’s most valuable advocate, and that a child’s health status is ultimately determined by how involved parents are in the health lifestyle of the child. A large part of supporting the parental role of being an advocate involves providing referrals for medical and dental treatments.

  Family Services

The focus of the Family Services Department (FS) is to encourage and support family goals, and foster environments where parents and guardians are involved with their child’s learning experience. The department is responsible for determining client eligibility, recruiting new students, student selection, class enrollment, and maintaining attendance standards.

Family Services operations are also heavily geared towards empowering parents to become advocates for their children. Advocacy by parents is a shift from the common paradigm that teachers and outside agencies know what’s best for children, and focuses instead on helping parents develop the skills and attitude they’ll need to take control of their child’s growth based on the fact that parents know their children best.
