Adult Literacy Grads

Adult Literacy

The adult literacy component partners with families, center staff, and community volunteers to involve and engage parents in opportunities to increase life skills, further their education, prepare for citizenship, and acquire support in literacy and English as a second language (ESL).

CPC values

  • Families as lifelong educators and learners
  • Collaborative relationships, mentoring and teamwork.
  • The unique role of parents as their child’s first and most important teacher, as a decision maker, and as a partner in teaching and learning.
  • We value the unique contributions made by people of diverse backgrounds and perspectives.

CPC also values relationships with advocates for change in their community.

  • Experience or exposure of how an ESL (English as a Second Language) class is ran would be highly desired. A strong desire to teach a group of parents with minimal English language skills.
  • Classes usually run from the first week of October until first week of May.
  • We follow school district holidays - No classes during holidays, winter break, spring break, and summer break. We do respect time that you might need to be absent.
  • You don't need to speak another language, but definitely a plus.
  • Small class setting - classes vary from 5-15 parents, depending on the need.
  • Materials and training will be provided.
  • We prefer our volunteers to teach English classes for parents while their children are in the classroom.
  • Hours vary between 8:00AM to 12:00PM.
  • Mileage is tax deductible.
